How to Wear Jewellery: The job interview..

I’m so happy to be introducing the first of a possible regular feature on the new and improved Pierrelecat: How to Wear Jewellery. I’m hoping I can give you a few ideas of how to wear jewellery for different occasions.. And of course, I'd love you to share your hints and tips of how you wear yours!
My first 'How to Wear Jewellery' post actually came about when I had a job interview of my own a couple of weeks ago. I’m sure there’ll be a few of you in a similar situation either finishing university for the summer and looking for a placement, or graduating and looking for that dream job.
If you’re anything like me, my accessory theory is the opposite of less is more. In fact I’m not even sure if I agree with more is more. Sometimes more just isn't enough..
I wear jewellery every day. Not being able to wear any feels like I’m only half dressed. So after a few interviews (and a jewellery faux pas or two!) here are my tips to help your ring selection become the cherry on the top of a great first impression and a successful interview..

Rings - Market stall, Matalan and Dixi

Necklace - (in the back ground) H&M
Nail varnish - Barry M (Greenberry) and Lush Laquer (Salt n' pepper)

What’s the first thing you do when you meet your interviewer? You shake hands! One thing I’ve learned is not to wear a handful of huge rings and combine that with massive bangles. The look of confusion from a perspective employer as they grab onto spiked rings or jangling bangles can contribute to that massively important seven second first impression. Just don’t risk it!

If like me, your hand feels naked without a bit of decoration why not pick up a set of the combination rings sets available from H&M and ASOS at the moment.. It’s inoffensive enough for an interview, but you can mix and match it with your usually ring collection when you’re not working. It creates a bit of interest with the different widths but won’t hinder that all important hand shake. Overall they’re a bit of an investment I think..
Rings – H&M (currently sold out but a similar version is available on ASOS also in gold)
Necklace - (in the background) Love, hearts and crosses
Nail varnish - Barry M (Greenberry)
My top tip? If they're not too expensive and you're wearing them enough, get a variety of sizes. If you tend to get a size medium, try a small pack too. They can be used as above knuckle rings, or try a bigger size for thumb rings. The more you have in your collection, the more you have to play with. Where would we be without a spot of ring stacking every now and then?
And if you're still not used to such a plain handful, brighten it up like I have with your nail varnish colour.
My only question is above knuckle rings.. Suitable for an interview or not?
What do you think of my first ‘How to Wear Jewellery’ post? Do you have any top accessory tips for an interview? Leave me a comment or tweet me! I'd love to hear what you think..

  1. Love this Helen! I dont read any other blogs which go into the detail of accessories very much and they are such an important part of an outfit, they can completely change something and also add something to an otherwise plain get up.

Really enjoyed reading this - eventho oddly, im much more of a scarf and pendant type of accessoriser!!! xxxx
