OOTD | In with the old

As my wardrobe clear out continues not only have I found clothes I'd forgotten about but I'm also starting to spot a bit of a pattern in the items that I'm saving.

And this outfit post features both of those things...

Before I started getting rid of most of the clothes I own (OK, slight exaggeration.. But it kind of feels like it) I had a certain idea of how I wanted to end up looking style-wise.

I was thinking a minimal minimal wardrobe, if you know what I mean? Not too much colour, mainly black and grey with the odd burgundy or yellow pop. Not too many patterns, more interesting designs and lines. This way all of the different pieces could work together and I'd end up with more outfits despite having less clothes to pick from.

Instead, I've got a LOT of shirts and a lot of pattern.

The right colours though... I was impressed with that at least.

So despite the ideas I had pre-clear-out I think it'll be a case of adapting my dream wardrobe to what I've actually got too. I mean, I must keep buying shirts for a reason? There's more patterns than I'd predicted but lots of similar styles.

Shirt - Vintage
Dress - Asos
Boots - Topshop
Necklaces - Dixi, Delilah Dust and Traditional Heart

And although I wouldn't count myself as a florals fan, for me there's something about a flower print on a dark background.

So, this isn't quite the style I had in mind... But it's the style that I have in my wardrobe.

Are any other fashion bloggers daring to clear out?

  1. I love everything about this outfit. The print on your dress is amazing. Most of my wardrobe is prints (a lot of it floral) and I really need to stock up on some plainer, more basic items. I have recently had a bit of a clear out lately, but I feel like I am having a bit of a wardrobe crisis since having my daughter. So many items are little bit too tight and don't look right and so many are a little too short for bending over a pram! x

  4. I've been going through a bit of a clear out too. I had a goal in mind and an overall look I wanted to achieve but as I started emptying the wardrobe I was faced with the problem that my newest style choice is one I have just been getting comfortable with and actually is quite limited. But I like seeing all the things that I really want to wear and all the things that make me, me so it's ok.

I do love the pattern on this dress! I'm all for patterns and quite enjoy pattern mixing.

  5. I love this outfit, and I'm like you, not a fan of the floral print. But I think as this is more muted I could wear it without looking like a teen!

  7. I love your hair's texture! I hope that mine can one day go back to looking similar to yours, once my dyed hair grows out. Gorgeous outfit, the pattern goes so well with the jeans shirt!
I'm currently trying to reduce my wardobe to a lot of monochrome pieces, too.

  8. Oh GOD I am always in a constant state of clearing out. But it does feel like as soon as I get rid, more stuff arrives, I'm useless. Good luck though - just think how clear headed you'll feel with a simple capsule :) ♥ Claire at Jazzpad
