Read: The Rosie Project

I love reading. The ultimate luxury for me is getting a good book and not putting it down until I've read it cover to cover. When I was on holiday last week I read four books one after the other.

Is there such a thing as a binge reader?

Now I've got a bit more time on my hands I can start ticking off a few books on the 'to-read' list and I thought I'd share what I thought just in case you were considering reading them too.

Book: The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

What's it all about then? How do you find a wife nowadays? According to Don Tilman, a professor of genetics with undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome, the answer is to design a detailed questionnaire and filter any unsuitable potential wife candidates by determining that they are consistently punctual and aren't a vegetarian. This is also known as 'The Wife Project.'

It's the logical way of finding the perfect partner. That's until Rosie comes along...

Best bits? This is told in the first person by Professor Don Tilman and I loved seeing the world from his point of view. His quirks, habits and routines are something you find yourself identifying with. Despite Tilman having a condition that can result in a lack of emotion or the inability to empathise, you can't help but feel the opposite when reading The Rosie Project.

Worst bits? I took this book away with me on holiday and read it in two days. I couldn't put it down.. Not that that's a bad thing, but you might need a couple of free days just in case.

You should read this if... You like A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and a Spot of Bother both by Mark Haddon (A Spot of Bother is also one of my favourite books..)

Would you recommend The Rosie Project? With a screenplay and a squeal in the pipeline I'd definitely recommend giving this a read even if it's just so you get to make a smug face when you say 'Oh yeah, I read that one ages ago..'

Hang on. That's an interesting piece of jewellery.. Where's it from? It's my current favourite Punky Pins* necklace and you can find it here.

What have you been reading lately?

  1. I started reading this a couple of weeks ago but got distracted by Game of Thrones. Think I need to get it back up on my Kindle! Looks funny :) xx

  2. I am definitely a binge reader! I usually never have the time to read in day to day life then read at least 4 books on each holiday. I really should get a kindle because carrying so many books in a backpack hasn't been the best idea in the past. Since being on maternity leave I have been spending much more time reading. This book sounds great. I will add it to my 'to read' list.

  3. I liked this book when I read it. I felt for Don and Rosie and was desperate for her to find her father.

  5. This sounds like a lovely read!
Have you read any Jill Mansel? I can highly recommend her books. They are light hearted, witty with out being too 'mushy'. They have short chapters so if you are like me and hate stopping in the middle of a chapter, you don't have to worry! xxx
