Over a year ago I heard that the 90s were coming back. Although I wasn't sure at first, the trend has picked up on all of the good stuff (dungarees, jelly shoes, waistcoats) and none of the rubbish stuff (Addidas poppers, orange platform shoes.. Or maybe that was just me?) that I associated with the 90s the first time round.
As for jewellery, I definitely didn't think I'd be on board. All I could think of were chokers. Chokers? Eeesh. They remind me of the pre-teeth straightened, mid acne ridden school discos I somehow voluntarily attended. I didn't think there was any way I'd budge on that one. My choker days were over.
Unsurpisingly I was wrong. Sure, chokers came back.. But they've improved. Along with another few 90s curve balls in the jewellery mix. Here are my current 90s inspired pieces..
1. A charity shop favourite I've never really worn but KNEW it would come in handy sometime..
2. This is how I do chokers now. I found this in Urban outfitter in L.A. last summer.
3. My most recent purchase and 90s inspired find. The cutest silver elephant necklace from Forever 21.

So elephants, right? I'm going to go out on a limb and say the defining animal of the 90s was probably the dolphin. Unfortunatly, that thing won't become cool anytime soon as long as David Cameron's wife has a tattoo of one on her ankle. She's ruined it for everyone. So the next best 90s creature has got to be the elephant..
Forever 21 are definitely embracing the elephant, with the animal featuring all over their current collections and sure to add a touch of nineties to any outfit. And everyone knows that elephant dress, right?
For the ultimate 90s boho jewellery look, you can't afford to miss out on this Ganesha necklace from the amazing Traditional Heart jewellery shop on Etsy.
Nineties = Grunge. That's why you'll need this choker in your life. (It's been making an appearance on a whole lot of blogs recently..) I've even found a real leather bargain on eBay too.
One of my favourite bloggers is Sarah at Blood Red Moon. When I saw
this hand harness featured on her blog I knew it had to be included on
my 90s inspired jewellery post. This is a fabulous example of mixing
grunge from back in the day with the design that's totally 2013.
You can pick yours up from blog shop Ryli in Ruin.

Howdy :)
ReplyDeletebased on your bio, I think we have a lot in common. Charity shop addiction is a very serious affliction that doesn't get the attention it deserves ;)
I'm definitely on board with the 90's comeback (I even have a pinterest board called I'm A 90's Bitch) and I love all the jewellery you featured here! Especially the wrist-harness thing. Very BDSM, I love it!!
