STYLe crush - M.I.A.

I have been a huge fan of M.I.A. since her first album release in 2005. That's a massive fan of her music AND her style..

If you hadn't already heard of her, M.I.A. managed to cause controversy when performing with Madonna at the Superbowl this weekend. To be fair, I don't think the performance would have had half as much coverage if M.I.A. hadn't sworn at the camera (Janet Jackson and the wardrobe malfunction, anyone?) M.I.A. is notorious for her outspoken behaviour and provocative videos. I would hazard a guess that her reputation is the main reason why Madonna wanted to team up with her in the first place. Anyway.. I digress..

M.I.A. has been rocking the clashing colours and aztec/ baroque prints since she started out, so I'll be taking tips from her wardrobe this summer..

Seriously, can anyone rock pregnancy as well as this??

Want to get the M.I.A. look this summer? It's got to be a mix of high street and vintage. Here are a few of my M.I.A. inspired finds..

I am in love with these aztec print shorts from Topshop. Perfect for festival season..

Find this vintage treat on the COW ebay site for only £17. Perfect for the clashing colours trend..

Me&Yu is one of my favourite shops to visit both online and when I'm in Manchester. This top would look great with a pair of bright Reebok high tops and a flash of gold..

Like I said, it can't be M.I.A. inspired if there's not a bit of gold in the outfit. What about this kooky pineapple ring from H&M to finish off an outfit?

OK.. I'm stopping. I could go on forever. I love her. If you fancy listening to her new single and watching her amazing new video it's available here, but if I had to reccommend one video to give you an idea of her music AND her style it would have to be this one..

What do you think? Does it make anyone else want to dance? In the street? By yourself?* So.. Who's your style crush?

*Or is that just me..

  1. I love those shorts too, but £30 seems a little excessive because the fabric feels a little cheap :-) xxx

  5. I've had my eye on those Topshop shorts too! I love them. I haven't worn that collar necklace we both have much either - for the same reason as you! I've been wearing a lot of long necklaces lately and I feel a bit naked with such a short necklace on so I figured why not wear both! x

  9. I love Aztec prints, can't get enough of them, it's probably because they remind me of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, I loved that program!

  11. I thought Madonna was a bit harsh on her, post superbowl-finger-gate! Like you say, I am sure she was delighted with the press coverage. Always loved M.I.A. - music is right up my street, and her outfits always raise a smile. That lady is not shy of a lairy print and I love it! :)
