Travel | OOTD | Shoreditch hipster..

Shoreditch. Homeland of the hipster. The ultimate fashion blogger backdrop.

When I had a bit of time off recently I knew I had to head down south to see what all the fuss was about. Hunt for inspiration. Spot street art. Sample a few cocktails.

Weirdly and completely unexpectedly I ended up feeling a bit disappointed..

We managed to fit in all of the places in London I'd recently read about, liked on Instagram and followed on Twitter. I popped into Borough Market, Somerset House and those all important Shoreditch hotspots.

And it was great. It really was. But how important is... Ticking the hipster boxes?

"When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."

And ol' Samuel Johnson is probably right.

But I'd also recently come across this quote:

"Consume less. Create more."

And I just couldn't seem to get it out of my head all weekend. Recently it's felt like I'm constantly bombarded with things you should buy or look like or act like or think like...

It wasn't until I had a chance to witnessing a blank wall transform into an artist's canvas and then into an ROA flea that I was finally able to find the inspiration I was looking for.

Just not in the form I was expecting.

It really doesn't matter where you are. London is just another place. Inspirational? Yes. Centre of the universe? Not so much.

Turns out inspiration is just as likely to strike on the train journey home.

  2. I do feel as though blogs are becoming so commercial. You never seem to see a "popular" blogger in the same clothes twice.

  4. Is it wrong that i sort of want to hi five?!? lol. I think because London is the capital etc and obv so hugely populated compared to us alll the way up here, it can often feel as if the universe revolves around it. It's important to remember that it doesn't! And that inspiration can come from bloody aaanywhere. I LOVED this xxxx

  5. Totally get this! I moved away from London recently having lived there for 5 years. The constant flow of stuff I should buy, want to buy, have to buy got too much. There is also (maybe in part due to that quote!!) a lot of pressure to think London is this wonderful, mythical place where all your dreams are going to happen. I in fact found it be very stifling to creativity. I now live in a quiet little place and it's nice for the time being. I've been to many cities and I have to say London is my least favourite (it took me a long time to feel ok about admitting that!) X
